I went ahead and paid CreateSpace for the third Kyle Callahan mystery, Death in the Headlights. Why? Because it will push me to finish it! I was dawdling and allowing myself to be stuck, but now that I’ve put out $948.00 for the paperback, I’ll get off my ass and finish. I love writing it, but as the saying goes, writers sometimes prefer to have written than to write. (I love the process, but the stuckness between the daily writing sessions always makes me wish I’d crossed the finish line by now.)
Oh, and great to read that some very experienced writers don’t use outlines. I use them, but very loosely. I need the sense of discovery that comes from letting the story take me where it needs and wants to go. My method is to outline two, three or four chapters, then write them. And I always know my ending.
